Homecoming 2007 - Polynesian Luau


Background

  • Selected as the Homecoming theme at the final Student Government meeting of the 2006-2007 school year.
  • "Polynesian Luau" defeated "Paris at Night", "Fall Festival", "Arabian Nights", and "Night at the Movies".
  • Props were ordered in May and arrived in early July.
  • Homecoming was originally to take place on October 13th but was moved because of a Band Competition taking place that same day in the school. The September 28th game against St. Marks was then selected, with the dance to take place the following evening (September 29th) from 7-10 pm.

Spirit Week

  • Monday - Jersey Day
  • Tuesday - Twin Day
  • Wednesday - Hat Day (301 students wore hats, NSG made a $1 donation to the Newark Stadium Fund for each hat worn)
  • Thursday - Mismatch Day
  • Friday - Spirit Day

Hallway Decoration Contest

  • Decoration of halls will take place on Thursday, September 27th / Voting by staff via email will take place on Friday, September 28th.
  • The winning class will be awarded $500.00 to be placed in their school account.
  • Rules:
    • Hallway decorations can be placed in the designated areas of the halls after 2:05 on the day of the contest.
    • Students, faculty members, and parents are allowed to assist with the decoration.
    • Decorations must be to the theme of the Homecoming Dance, which is Polynessian Luau.
    • Class pride (i.e. - expressing what class you represent) must also be included into the design
    • Any destruction or sabatage by any member of your class (thru 7 am on the day of judging) will led to the disqualification of your class in the event (as monitored by the security camera's in the building).
    • Voting will take place via email by the faculty of Newark High School throughout the day following set-up. Votes will not be counted after 2:30 pm.
  • Hallway Locations:
    • Class of 2008 - B-Hallway from B/E Intersection to the fire doors
    • Class of 2009 - E-Hallway from Fire doors to E/B Intersection
    • Class of 2010 - C-Hallway from Fire doors to C/D Intersection
    • Class of 2011 - D-Hallway from Fire doors to E/D Intersection
  • Winning class - Class of 2008

Powerpuff Football Game

  • Game on Wednesday, September 26th at 6:00 pm
  • Presented by the Junior Class as a Prom Fundraiser.
  • Senior Girls defeated Junior Girls 12-0.
  • The Senior class has a record of 8-2-1 in these contests.

Homecoming Tailgate Contest

  • Presentation of the Tailgate Centerpieces will take place on Friday, September 28th
    • The raindate for the Tailgate Contest will be Friday, October 12th (judgement will be made prior to 2:05 on 9/28).
  • Voting by staff via paper ballot will take place from 6 pm to 7:15 pm.
  • The winning class or organization will be awarded $500.00 to be placed in their school account.
  • Rules:
    • Classes and organizations will be given four (4) parking spaces by the Hive that will be set aside as their Tailgate area. Anything beyond those spaces will lead to disqualification.
    • Each tailgate area MUST HAVE an elevated platform that is no smaller than one parking space (in past years this would be known as the "float").
    • Tailgate area must focus on AT LEAST one of these two possible design possiblities:
      • The Homecoming Theme which is Polynessian Luau
      • Beat the Spartians (St. Marks)
    • Tailgate area must clearly emphasize what class or organization is in charge of it.
    • Parents, students and faculty members can participate in the set-up of the Tailgate area BUT only the students can be in the designated area after 6 pm.
    • To gain votes students can: feed (if making food, adult assistance is allowed), entertain (coordinate chants, dance numbers, play games for prizes, offer or use face/body paint), conjole, and/or decorate themselves (as long as it doesn't violate the student code of conduct).
    • Students CANNOT: set things on fire, use fireworks, harass other clubs or organizations, intentionally damage or destroy another Tailgate Area, or impede access to the game.
